- During an interview with CNN, Brad Pitt opened up about confronting Harvey Weinstein after his then-girlfriend, Gwyneth Paltrow, told him that the producer made unwanted advances towards her.
- Pitt’s motivation, he said, was that he “wanted to make sure nothing was going to happen further.”
- Paltrow was one of the multiple women who came forward to The New York Times in 2017, accusing Weinstein of sexual harassment.
In 2017, Gwyneth Paltrow alleged to The New York Times that producer Harvey Weinstein sexually harassed her when she was 22 years old. She also said that her then-boyfriend, actor Brad Pitt, confronted the movie mogul after the encounter. Now, in an interview with CNN, Pitt elaborated on his motivation for standing up to one of Hollywood’s most powerful and intimidating figures.
“At that moment, I was just a boy from the Ozarks on the playground,” Pitt told Christine Amanpour, “and that’s how we confronted with things.”
Paltrow previously told the Times that she met with the film producer at a hotel for a work meeting shortly after being cast in the starring role in his 1996 film Emma. After the meeting, Paltrow said, Weinstein allegedly put his hands on her and suggested they go into the bedroom for massages. She said she rejected his advances.

Pitt also added, “I just wanted to make sure nothing was going to happen further, because she [Paltrow] was going to do two films. I think the interesting thing is that we, Hollywood specifically, but the workplace, men and women’s dynamics is being recalibrated, recalibrated in a very good way that is long overdue. And I do think that’s an important story to tell.”
A spokesman for Weinstein told the newspaper at the time, “Any allegations of non-consensual sex are unequivocally denied by Mr. Weinstein. Mr. Weinstein has further confirmed that there were never any acts of retaliation against any women for refusing his advances. He will not be available for further comments, as he is taking the time to focus on his family, on getting counseling and rebuilding his life.”
